Tiger Tiger's Rugs are 100% Wool. No Tigers were harmed in the making of these rugs! Tiger Rugs are NOT actual Tiger Pelts. Really! The items from which we take our name are Tibetan Tiger Design Rugs. Hundreds of years ago, Tibetans invoked the spirit of the tiger by adorning their surroundings
with woven representations of this powerful and graceful animal. With perhaps 200 antique rugs known to exist, few people can own an original. Tiger Tiger now brings quality reproductions of these wonderful rugs to you, along with exciting new interpretations designed by master weavers at our Kathmandu workshop.
Tomorrow's Heirlooms
These are the highest quality hand woven rugs available, created by Tibetan artisans now living in Nepal. Pure Tibetan wool is used, renowned for its lustre and softness. The entire making proccess is done completely by hand. The wool is dyed, carded, and spun, and then woven using the unique Tibetan knot. Each piece contains 100 knots per inch, resulting in a rug that is luxuriously thick and supple. One artisan works for almost a month to weave each rug.
There is no child labor involved. Every piece is a superb work of art and craft, which will be enjoyed by your family for generations to come. Custom Rugs
Many of the antique designs are detailed in the book, "The Tiger Rugs of Tibet" by Mimi Lipton, published by Thames and Hudson. This book is currently out of print but may be found at your library. Any rug in this book can be made for you, or, we can custom design a rug just for you, based upon your own colors. Please see our pricelist
or contact us for details. In addition to new and traditional Tiger Rugs, we also carry Tantric Buddhist designs, and two wonderful Snow Leopard rugs.
A Worthy Cause In addition to supporting the artisans who weave the rugs, (many of them former refugees
from Tibet), Tiger Tiger donates a portion of every t-shirt and tiger rug sale to The Tiger Foundation. Please visit them to find out more about the plight of this magnificent animal and find out what you can do to help. |
